Chinese envoy requests government to clamp down on anti-China protests

Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, May 12 -
The Chinese government Monday expressed extreme disappointment over ongoing demonstrations by Tibetan refugees in Nepal and stressed that the Nepal government should clamp down on such demonstrations as they were against the integrity of China. The Chinese government also expressed dissatisfaction over the role played by the Nepal government to control the ongoing demonstrations.Speaking at a press meet organised in the capital today, Chinese Ambassador for Nepal Zheng Xianglin repeatedly asked the Nepal government to fulfill its commitment to clamp down on anti-China activities."I urge the government of Nepal to honestly carry out its commitments and don't allow these anti-China separatist activities happening so rapidly in Nepal. The government should adopt very severe punishment to a handful of separatists for Tibetan independence and can't arrest them in the morning and release them later," said the Chinese envoy. He also alleged that some United Nations agencies and human rights groups have helped to intensify the anti-China demonstrations in the country."UN agencies are present in every demonstration. I am not clear about their purpose in Nepal. Are they here to supervise the human rights of Tibetan refugees," questioned Xianglin. He also said that the Chinese government will continue its support to Nepal irrespective of which party leads the next government. Moreover, he also added that it would be solely the decision of the Nepal government on whether or not to further extend the work period of United Nations Mission in Nepal.
